We walk, read, make and tell with...
is a co-creative process and a narrative walk as part of the project “On Routes and Roots” (2023). This project was realized with the women of the knitting and crochet club who gather at the community center Den Deigem in Mechelen.

I wanted to recognize, value, and make visible the importance of this maker community by learning from them, listening to their stories, and giving these stories back to them in the form of a narrative walk in their neighborhood.”

Field-kiln making celebration
A two-day and weekend happening centred on working with clay and on creative processes inspired by wandering and relating to the land.

The happening concludes with a firing celebration in an open fire (field kiln) at an outdoor location, where participants witness the transformation of their handmade clay objects and how these objects begin to express their own stories, while a collective story may also emerge...

Tidal Confluence performance ritual

(..)These plants passed through the many hands that have been reciprocating and engaging with the river. This braid was an offering of care and it went back to the SZenne, floating and holding our story of connection with the river.(..)

Allowing interconnected streams to branch and rejoin, dividing and intertwining the threads of our story,... this braid emerged as a gesture of care, for the Alliance formed along the river, for the SZenne itself, for all the water bodies that compose our ecosystems and merge together within these waters.

Map for tracing and weaving the future
At 27 and a half, I set out on long, wandering walks—deliberate, conscious, searching.
The world felt strange: customs, objects, even myself. I moved from place to place, from identity to identity.

I spoke with spirits, plants, animals, objects —everything that seemed alive around me.
And then, one day, a single blade of grass drew my attention. It whispered: “Wandering soul, you have been here before. In the past that is now the present, you left traces for yourself.
Ask yourself: what can you do for yourself, what can you do for the whole? Find the traces, place them on a map, and let them speak to you.
You will always find your way.”

Harvesting Darkness : Gates of ECHO
Here, humans are not (in the traditional humanist perspective) a being separated from the nature; rather, they are symbionts sharing the process with other entities and with the entire setting. Thus, humans become citizens of Terrapole where culture, technology and nature become one again.

About
Laura.meuris@gmail.com

Laura Eva Meuris is a Belgian dancer and visual artist.
She also works as a performance artist and choreographer.

Within a purpose-built nomadic architecture, she engages participants in acts of making together and artistic interventions that emerge through entanglements with animals, plants, and other non-human entities. This nomadic makerspace for co-creation, traditional craft, and research foregrounds co-growth as a central organizing principle. Drawing inspiration from mycelial networks — subterranean fungal systems that interconnect trees and sustain forest ecosystems — Laura investigates concepts of relationality, interdependence, and storytelling through an open artistic methodology.

Her practices are inherently hybrid, unfolding differently in each iteration, and oriented towards relationality, dialogue, and embodied gestures of care.

Her work materializes through:
I. The creation of environments that facilitate dialogue and encourage participatory engagement.
II. The creation of visual universes in which objects and artefacts function as tangible traces of processes of co-making and storytelling.

Taken as a whole, her practice can be understood as rhizomatic, branching into choreographed events, craft-based making rituals, kaleidoscopic mappings, publications, exhibitions, and other artistic actions.
